Crutch Elimination:

Another Confidence Builder

by Keith Pascal

Let's talk a bit more about fear.

Another way to eliminate your fears is to work at the problem from a different angle.

Let's look at loss.

Imagine losing 'something' during a fight.

Your knife slips from your hand. You can't bend down to pick it up -- no time.

Gulp. How do you feel?

Is the knife a crutch?

If you feel the slightest fear when you imagine losing your knife, then that's exactly what you have to train for.

Practice losing your knife ... and again ... work through your fear.

By the way, it doesn't have to be a physical loss, for you to feel fear.

A hulk is facing you as he attacks, you punch his face and his solar plexus.

No effect.

He smiles.

He advances. You are afraid.

What?

You are afraid?

Plan for it.

What is your immediate follow-up technique after the first two punches glance off the mass of muscles?

Practice your alternate plan.

Just knowing that you have alternate plans helps to build confidence.

There is no such thing as failure. (Remember, I am building your confidence.)

You just shift, and continue your defense/attack.

10 Days to Better Knife Fighting

Whether it's a knife or a stick, or even some other weapon ... plan on losing it in a battle. Know that you don't have any crutches ... nothing that you "rely" on.

Be confident without the weapon. Why? Because you have practiced for the possibility.

Don't get me wrong, if you employ a weapon, don't count on losing it in the battle. It's preferable to hang on to it.

But if the worst happens, it won't bother you.
